Location and access
This is the substantive difference. The Peninsula's position in Cornelius puts it closer to the interstate, to Charlotte employment, and to the airport, which matters for commuters and frequent travelers. The Point's western position places it farther from that corridor and, for many residents, in a quieter part of the lake.
Crossing the lake is not quick by car. Two communities that look close together on a map can be a substantial drive apart, because the road network goes around the water rather than across it. Test the drive you would actually make. Approximate distances from The Peninsula are on the location page.
Waterfront character
Both communities have genuinely good water and both have marginal water. Depth, cove protection, view corridor, exposure, and dock permit status vary enormously street to street inside each one, which is why community-level claims about "better waterfront" are close to meaningless.

Golf and club structure
Each community centers on an 18-hole championship course operated within a private club, and each club sets its own membership categories, dues, initiation terms, and availability. In both, buying a home does not confer membership.

Homes and architecture
Both communities were developed largely from the 1990s onward and share the resulting vocabulary: traditional masonry estates, European-influenced larger homes, and a growing stock of transitional renovations and contemporary waterfront rebuilds.

How to choose
Neither community is better. Rank these four in your own order and the answer usually resolves itself:
- Commute and travel. If you are uptown or at the airport regularly, proximity matters daily.
- County and schools. Different districts, different processes — verify assignments for any address you consider.
- The specific water. A great lot in either community beats an average lot in the other.
- Current inventory. You are ultimately buying one house, not a community average.
